Kelly T. Hunter
Kelly T. Hunter is a Senior Associate at NIELSEN SHIELDS, PLLC, having practiced maritime law since moving to Seattle in late 2002. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah in 1996, and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Idaho College of Law in 1999. Ms. Hunter was admitted to the Idaho State Bar Association in 1999 and the Washington State Bar Association in 2003; she is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, the United States District Court of Idaho and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. After obtaining her J.D., Ms. Hunter had the honor of clerking for the Honorable D. Duff McKee, Fourth Judicial District Judge, Ada County, Idaho, through 2000. Ms. Hunter is a Member of the American Inns of Court, the National Association of Women Business Owners and the Women's Law Caucus.
While in Idaho until 2002, Ms. Hunter's practice focused in areas involving employment claims, eminent domain, judicial foreclosures, insurance bad faith defense and personal injury of all varieties. Since moving to Seattle, Ms. Hunter's practice has focused on defense of maritime claims, including personal injury and death, as well as employment claims of harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination and retaliation; managing cases in litigation (state and federal courts) and defending administrative charges (EEOC, Idaho Human Rights Commission and Seattle Office of Civil Rights). As part of her employment practice, Ms. Hunter counsels clients regarding their rights and obligations under the evolving principles of employment law and related federal and state statutes. Ms. Hunter's practice also includes corporate formation and other related corporate transactional work. Ms. Hunter is an active participant in and member of the Puget Sound Marine Claims Association and the Marine Insurance Association of Seattle.
